Moscow • The head of Russia's state medical agency has told President Vladimir Putin that Russian athletes will use "clean technologies only" in preparing for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Putin's meeting with Vladimir Uiba, whose agency provides medical care for the Olympic team, follows a string of doping scandals in Russian sports, including the suspension of the entire track and field team from international competition.
In an excerpt shown on state TV, Uiba told Putin that "we obviously use clean technologies only when preparing to organize medical and medical-biological support."
Uiba said each Russian athlete received individual support "to bring them to the physiological peak of maximum ability for the human organism," without giving further details of what that involves.
Putin replied that the agency's work was "very good."
