Ryan Schimpf hit a two-run homer and James Loney added a solo blast Monday night, leading El Paso to an 8-5 over Salt Lake. In front of 2,934 fans at blustery Smith's Ballpark, the Chihuahuas pounded out 12 hits.

Turning Point • Salt Lake owned a 3-1 lead into the fifth, when El Paso bunched five hits, scored five runs and knocked out starter Zach Nuding (1-2). Alex Dickerson's two-run double highlighted the uprising.

Bees MVP • Outfielder Nick Buss singled three times in five at-bats. He improved to 5-for-11 in this series and bumped his batting average to .348.

Hidden Hero • Salt Lake reliever Cody Satterwhite retired four straight batters. He has now pitched nine scoreless innings this season. He's struck out nine, walked two and allowed two hits.

Flashing Leather • El Paso owned a 6-3 lead in the sixth. The Bees had runners on second and third when Shane Robinson hit a sinking line drive to right. Hunter Renfroe raced in and made a diving catch, however, to prevent two runs from scoring.

Angel Angle • Prospect Tyler Skaggs was scratched as the Bees' starting pitcher because of arm fatigue, the L.A. Angels announced before the game. Skaggs underwent Tommy John surgery 18 months ago. He's pitched 9 2/3 innings in three starts this season.

Quoteworthy • Salt Lake manager Keith Johnson, on the precautionary scratch of Skaggs: "… Hopefully, like I've always said, he'll be pitching meaningful innings for the big club in September and October."

History Lesson • On April 25, 2002, Jose Molina's two-run single in the eighth gives the Salt Lake Stingers a 3-2 win over Fresno. Marty Janzen gets credit for the victory.

What's next • El Paso (TBA) vs. Salt Lake (Chris Jones, 1-0), Tuesday, 6:35 p.m. Radio: 1280-AM. —
