Real Salt Lake officials are set to announce plans this weekend for a $50 million soccer complex in Herriman to house everything from the the club's training activities to a charter high school for youth players.

The site will include eight different soccer fields for the Major League Soccer club, its minor league affiliate, the Real Monarchs, and the club's U-16 and U-18 teams. RSL's current training ground is a single, no-frills field in Sandy.

The new facility will also house some of the club's youth training activities and will include a 250-student charter school with a science, technology, engineering and math emphasis.

The facility will be home to about 50 full-time staffers.

Groundbreaking is expected to happen in late April with an eye on an August 2017 opening date for the facilities youth activities and charter school. The site is expected to be fully operational in time for the 2018 MLS season.

A formal announcement from RSL and Herriman leaders is expected to be made Saturday.

According to the team, RSL owner Dell Loy Hansen has also planned to build regional training centers across Utah, where players under the age of 14 will be provide an "RSL-designed curriculum … providing an entry point for elite development in the sport, potential academy entry and an adjunct level of practice designed to complement the existing system." Facilities, valued at $2 million apiece, are planned for Logan, Ogden and West Valley City in the first phase of the plans. Phase II includes plans for facilities in Orem and St. George.
