Logan • Utah State junior Jalen Moore announced Friday he will declare for eligibility in the 2016 NBA draft.

Moore, a 6-foot-9 forward from North Logan, has led the Aggies in both scoring and rebounding in back-to-back seasons. He averaged 15.2 points and 6.7 rebounds as a sophomore before averaging 15.2 points and six rebounds as a junior.

Moore was named third-team all-Mountain West Conference this season.

"It is always a lifelong goal of somebody who has played basketball as a kid to want to play in the NBA," Moore said. "I have been working at it my whole life and I feel like this summer I have a decent shot.

"… If it doesn't work out then I can pull out and attend my senior year at Utah State. [But] this process will really help me get my name out there and will help people get to know me."

Moore will not hire an agent, meaning he can withdraw from the draft by May 25 and retain his college eligibility. If he returns next season, Moore will likely finish among the top-10 scorers in Utah State history.

"We are supportive of Jalen exploring his options at the next level," coach Tim Duryea said. "We will use our NBA contacts to try and help him gather information regarding his draft status. Our goal is to help all of our players succeed at every level."

The first time underclassmen can have contact with NBA teams is May 11-15 at draft combine in Chicago. After that, underclassmen can work out for teams at their own expense in order to maintain their eligibility.

The draft is June 23.
