Tempe, Ariz. • The Arizona State baseball team defeated Utah 5-0 Friday as the Utes were on the wrong side of a no-hitter.

Utah pitcher Dalton Carroll struck out eight batters and Sun Devils pitcher Ryan Hingst struck out nine batters.

Brian Serven scored two runs on two hits for Arizona State (14-8, 1-4). The Sun Devils had three runs on four hits in the sixth inning to secure their lead.

The Utes (7-13, 3-2 Pac-12) ended a three-game winning streak, the longest streak they had owned this season.

Loyola Marymount 10, BYU 5 • In Provo, the Cougars dropped the second of a three-game set versus conference rival Loyola Marymount.

Sean Watkins hit a home run with two RBIs for the Lions (10-13, 3-2 West Coast Conference). Colton Shaver had a homer with two RBIs to lead BYU (19-3, 3-2 WCC) his 19th career home run.

Colorado NW 11, SLCC 4 • The Bruins (14-13, 5-7 SWAC) dropped their first game in a doubleheader against Colorado NW. The second game was not finished, due to weather.

Softball

New Mexico State 13, Utah State 6 • In Albuquerque, N.M., the Lobos defeated the Aggies, who fell to 13-12 overall and 1-1 in the Mountain West. Mariah Rimmer led the Lobos (16-12, 1-0 MW), hitting 3 of 3 and four RBIs.

Portland 4-3, Weber State 0-5 • In Hillsboro, Ore., Weber State earned a split on the opening day of league play against Portland State. In the second game, the Wildcats (17-12, 1-1 Big Sky) were led by Aubrey Whitmer, with three RBIs.

SUU 14-7, Idaho State 7-0 • SUU snapped an 18-game losing skid with two wins over Idaho State in its league opener. Kylee Wolf led SUU (5-25, 2-0 Big Sky) with four runs between both games.

Women's tennis

No. 1 California 7, No. 65 Utah 0 • The Golden Bears remain undefeated after romping past the Utes. Denise Starr and Maegan Manasse led California in the sweep of Utah (10-7, 1-4 Pac-12) with wins in doubles and singles play.

Washington State 5, BYU 1 • BYU earned one point in singles play in its loss to Washington State. Maria Biryukova scored singles and doubles point to help Washington State defeat BYU (4-10, 2-1 WCC).

Idaho State 6, SUU 1 • The Bengals swept doubles play on their way to a win against SUU (2-14, 1-5 Big Sky).

Men's tennis

No. 15 California 4, Utah 3 • The Utes clinched the doubles and first singles point but dropped their home opener. Freddie McGeehan won in doubles and singles for Utah (16-4, 0-1 Pac-12).

BYU 5, Idaho 0 • In Provo, John Pearce and Jacob Sullivan led BYU to a win against Idaho for its 10th straight home win. Pearce and Sullivan won their doubles match and singles matches for the Cougars (14-3, 3-0 WCC).

North Dakota St. 4, SUU 3 • North Dakota State pulled past SUU (0-12, 0-6 Big Sky) to win.

Men's volleyball

No. 3 BYU 3, UC San Diego 0 • The Cougars (18-3, 14-3 MPSF) swept UC San Diego behind a career-high 33 kills from Brenden Sander.
