Logan • In the wake of a five-game losing streak, Utah State coach Tim Duryea promised to "make some changes" in his starting lineup and rotation against New Mexico on Tuesday night at the Spectrum.

"We haven't exactly decided what we're going to do yet," Duryea said Monday. "[But] … it will be different."

The Aggies come off an 84-65 loss at Wyoming, which had lost four of its previous five games.

"We've got to continue to challenge our guys on the defensive end and in terms of rebounding," Duryea said. "We're going to keep looking for solutions. We have some limitations with size and depth, but we can do a better job than we've done."

At Wyoming, starters Darius Perkins (eight) Chris Smith (seven) and Elston Jones (three) played limited minutes in the second half. Key reserve Shane Rector played one minute.

On the other hand, guard Henry Bolton played 12 minutes. It was his first time off the bench in a month. He had played 46 minutes in Utah State's first 21 games.

"We have a good set of kids," Duryea said. "… But when you're going bad, you have to figure out how to get it turned around.

"I think there's reason for optimism. You look at every game and, for 20 or 30 minutes, we perform like a pretty good team. Then, for eight of 10 minutes, we look exactly opposite. But our kids know they can play well."

New Mexico has won four of its past five games, although the Lobos comes off a controversial 78-71 overtime loss at San Diego State. which likely doomed their chance to win the Mountain West Conference's regular-season championship.

New Mexico owned a 66-63 lead with 12.9 seconds left and was inbounding under its own basket. The Lobos ran a press-breaker play, with Cullen Neal passing across the court to Xavier Adams, who was also out-of-bounds.

In theory, Adams would receive the ball and have a better chance to inbound to an open teammate. But the officials ruled Adams caught the pass from Neal without establishing position out of bounds. San Diego State was given possession, tied the game on a last-second 3-pointer and pulled away in overtime.

Hours after the game, the Mountain West issued a rare statement and admitted the officials had made a mistake.

Of course, Utah State was victimized by a non-call in the final three seconds of a 70-67 loss at Boise State on Feb. 2. Rector was clearly fouled on a layup that would have tied the game and forced overtime. The league office did not comment on the play.

"In my experience, if you suffer a [controversial] loss like that, it's easier to bounce back if things are going well," Duryea said. "If things aren't going well — if you're looking for a breakthrough — it can just pile on. When you're going through a bad streak and something like that happens, it's harder to bounce back."

Utah State found out against Wyoming, which made 20 of its 38 3-pointers and led by as many as 24 points in the second half.
