West Valley City • Less than one minute remained in the second period of Friday night's contest at the Maverik Center between the Utah Grizzlies and the Rapid City Rush. With the Grizzlies clinging to a one-goal lead, it appeared as though the game would be headed for a dramatic third-period finish.

That was until Utah forwards Charles Sarault and Alex Krushelynski emerged. Sarault fired a wrister past Rush goalie Sam Marotta with 47 seconds remaining in the period and Krushelynski followed up with just 13 seconds left on a breakaway. And even though there was still 20 minutes of hockey to be played, Rapid City's fate was sealed. Utah shifted into cruise control in the third and when all was said and done, the final read: Grizzlies 4 Rush 1.

"We've had some difficulty against these guys, but we played really well and did all the little things for a full 60 minutes," Sarault said.

The victory was Utah's sixth consecutive victory on home ice and marked the 100th win for coach and general manager Tim Branham.

"We've had some great teams here, and this club is very special," Branham said. "We played with a lot of energy and passion tonight. That's a desperate hockey club, and we weathered the storm. We continued to play our game."

Recently acquired goaltender Mark Owuya was spectacular in securing his first win in a Utah uniform, stopping all but one of the 37 shots the Rush fired his way.

In the first, Ryan Walters exploded onto the rink during a shift change, gathered a loose puck and blazed down the ice. Deking two defenders, Walters lobbed a wrister top shelf past Marotta for a 1-0 Utah lead.

The Rush evened the score early in the second when forward Garett Bembridge fired the puck past a defenseless Owuya after a Utah turnover in its defensive zone. Eric Knodel recaptured the lead for Utah as the defenseman rocketed a shot from the blue line to make it 2-1 Grizzlies.
