Utah junior Baely Rowe went from good to great Saturday, using a solid vault to lift her to one of her best performances of her career.

After scoring a 9.775 on the vault, Rowe won the uneven bars title with a 9.95 and tied her career high on the beam with a 9.9 to help the sixth-ranked Utah gymnastics team beat No. 11 Oregon State 196.125-195.125.

Rowe, Utah's most improved gymnast as a sophomore, is emerging as the Utes' best bars worker this season. Prior to Saturday's performance she ranked third nationally with a 9.9 average.

Saturday's routine was her her best, not only in the eyes of the judge's but in Rowe's own judgement too.

"Throughout the routine I was hitting every hand stand and I just wanted to keep it going," she said. "When I hit the landing, I knew it was the best routine I had ever done."

As impressive was her beam routine, which came after teammate MaKenna Merrell had a bobble and scored 9.575. Rowe was unfazed by the pressure, delivering a routine second only to teammate Maddy Stover's 9.925 winning effort.

"I told myself I wanted to be aggressive no matter what," Rowe said.

The clutch performance helped the Utes score a season-high 49.275 on the event.

Packed arena

Utah's gymnastics record attendance of 16,019 in 2015 might not be broken, at least not without persuading the fire marshall.

The Utes announced an attendance of 15,550 fans Saturday and turned away many.

Utah took heat last year for allowing so many fans to watch the Michigan meet so entry was tighter on Saturday.

Officials allowed attendees to fill in reserved seating that wasn't filled midway through the meet and allowed fans to stand behind the sections. The fire marshall refused entry when capacity reached 15,550. Fans who couldn't get in received vouchers for the next home meet.

Coach Tom Farden didn't like that fans were turned away, but loved seeing a packed arena.

"I guess people like the matinee," he said.

Briefly

Georgia Dabritz was recognized during the meet as one of the honorees for the NCAA Today's Top 10 Award, which recognizes 10 outstanding senior student-athletes from all divisions.

Dabritz was a 16-time All-American for the Utes, won the 2015 NCAA uneven bars title and was named the national senior gymnast of the year.
