Two meets into the season, Utah's gymnastics team is good, just not consistently so.

That is the ruling so far from coach Megan Marsden, who wants to see a little more consistency from her sixth-ranked Utes when they host No. 11 Oregon State on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Utes won their first two meets with solid efforts, but still need to deliver more consistent performances, particularly on the balance beam and floor, Marsden said.

Utah scored a 49.125 on the beam and a 48.95 on the floor Friday at Southern Utah University.

"We are still trying to figure out who we are on those events," Marsden said. "On the beam we know they are gritty in meet scenarios but they still treat that event a little different than others. We have to mellow out in some ways and get tougher in others."

On the floor, the Utes are feeling the absence of the senior class that anchored the event last year. Georgia Dabritz, Becky Tutka, Corrie Lothrop and Tory Wilson helped the Utes shine on that event in the past with their powerful tumbling.

The Utes simply don't have that kind of tumbling in their lineups right now and others aren't as clean as they should be. Most notable in that area is sophomore standout Kari Lee, who has fallen on her double back in the first two meets.

"We are willing to wait another time or two, but we are also making sure we have a backup pass if we need to go there," Marsden said. "So we are still figuring out who we are and what is doable week in and week out."

The uneven bars is definitely the one area in which the Utes are meeting, if not surpassing, expectations. The Utes are averaging 49.35 in the event to rank No. 1 in the country. They earned a 49.475 at SUU for what Marsden believes is one of the best bar sets she has seen.

"It was an incredible set and had to be one of the best in the country," Marsden said.

Injury report

The Utes are hopeful senior Kailah Delaney can compete against Oregon State after she tweaked her knee during warmups at SUU. The senior, who has been plagued by knee issues throughout her career, didn't suffer a serious injury but the Utes are being cautious.

"It is more of a management thing with her," Marsden said. "We are hoping she can at least compete on vault and beam."

Delaney missed the 2013 season following knee surgery but has since become strong enough to earn the reputation of being one of the best vaulters in the country.

Good timing

The Utes hope Saturday's unusual 3 p.m. start time doesn't hurt attendance. The Utes normally compete at night, but more and more are faced with some unusual start times so meets can be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.

It is the first afternoon meet at Utah.

"We are hoping that isn't a horrible time for families but you never know what people have going on in their lives," Marsden said. "The girls are excited about it because it is about the same time of day we train so not much is different there for them."

The meet has been designated as "blackout," in which fans are encouraged to wear black.

The Utes have three more afternoon meets in the regular schedule, competing at UCLA at 2 p.m. on Feb. 6, at Stanford at 3 p.m. on Feb. 20 and at Cal at 2 p.m. on Feb. 27

The Utes have a rare Monday meet against Arizona on Feb. 2.
