Murray • In a Region 6 contest between host Murray and Olympus that was anticipated to be a close one, the score was indeed tight through one quarter. Even then, however, the visiting team was planting the seeds of a blowout.

And once the Titans limited their early turnovers, offensive balance and rebounding dominance eventually led to a convincing 57-38 victory Tuesday night.

After beating Kearns on Friday, Olympus (11-2, 2-0) has a quick early advantage in a tough region whose champ might just contend for much more.

"Obviously we have some length and some size. I think we made them take some tough shots and rebounded well," Titans coach Matt Barnes said. "Then we executed well on our side."

Olympus' 6-foot-8 senior Isaac Monson scored five points but was dominating on the glass — finishing with 20 boards. A Monson free throw at the end of the first quarter made the score 11-9 in favor of the Titans.

But the visitors, who had coughed up four turnovers in the first two minutes, were getting more patient. A 3-pointer from Miles Keller, who finished with 12 points, started the scoring in the second quarter.

Monson put back in a rebound, his 11th of the game at the time, midway through the second as Olympus went up 21-11.

"Truthfully, it was only a matter of time," said Murray coach Jason Workman, whose team is now 8-5 and 1-1 in 6-4A. "From the beginning of the game, I thought they did a good job defensively. And I thought we were really poor decision-makers.

"When they switch everything and have got good length, you've got to execute and you've got to attack," Workman added. "I thought we went one-on-one and iso [isolated attacks] — and settled for a lot of poor shots."

Ryan Bell, a 6-foot-7 senior himself, came off the bench to lead the Titans with 14 points while Matt Lindsey added 11. Murray got 15 points from A.J. Hodges while Zack Dickerson totaled all of his 14 for the Spartans after intermission.

Also after halftime, Olympus started the third period with a pair of three-point swishes by Nate Fox — his first scores of the contest. At the end of the third, seven straight Titans' points pushed the score to 45-24.

"For us, it all started on the D side. They're a great shooting team and I thought we made it tough on them," Barnes said. "They missed a few and I think it hurt their confidence and we just kind of rolled from there.

"It didn't make for a very exciting fourth quarter, but the only way we let them back in the game is if we start taking some crazy shots," he added. "It's a great win for us. Anytime you come in here and win, it's a great win." • Olympus followed its region-opening win Friday over Kearns with the road victory against the Spartans.

• Titans' senior Isaac Monson pulled down 20 rebounds, scored five points and dished out four assists in the contest.

• The game's leading scorer was Murray's A.J. Hodges with 15 points. Reserve Ryan Bell paced Olympus with 14 while teammate Miles Keller added a dozen.
