Ogden • The longest home stand of the season for Weber State ended with a perfect 5-0 record, including three victories to start Big Sky Conference play, as the Wildcats beat undersized but resilient Northern Colorado 85-68 Saturday.

Cats coach Randy Rahe went to his bench quicker and deeper than the first two Big Sky games as the Bears' penetrations into the paint produced points but also foul trouble for Weber State (11-5, 3-0).

"Everybody played their role, did what we had to do to get a win," said Weber's Kyndahl Hill, who came off the bench to score 14 points and grab eight rebounds.

Hill made a defensive impact as soon as he came into the contest. With 11:15 left in the first half, the 6-foot-7 junior stuffed a shot by Tanner Morgan. Minutes later, he drew a charge in the lane on the Bears' Ibrahim Sylla.

Bears' Jordan Wilson and Dallas Anglin persistently pushed the ball into the middle for scoring chances.

Down 53-47 on a basket by Jeremy Verhagen with five-and-a-half minutes into the second half, Northern Colorado (4-12, 1-3) had several chances to trim the lead to five or less. Off the last missed opportunity, a Wildcats' fast break ended in a putback bucket from Juwan Williams with 12:30 remaining. A pair of free throws by Hill 30 seconds later put Weber back up by double-digits.

"[Hill] was physical and very active obviously. He's a long kid, an active kid, and changes the game inside for us," said Rahe.

"[The Wildcats] are so good defensively that if you take quick shots, it's going to be over in a hurry," said Northern Colorado coach B.J. Hill. "They're playing so well on defense the way they rebound and they always execute so well offensively."

Joel Bolomboy, who finished with 14 points and 17 rebounds, ended up with four personal fouls — along with fellow front-line players Hill and freshman starter Zach Braxton. —
