Logan • Utah State defensive coordinator Kevin Clune's move to Oregon State could be made official as soon as Wednesday, the Portland Tribune and Oregonian newspapers are reporting.

Clune has been the frontrunner for the job since another possibility, Wisconsin's Dave Aranda, moved to LSU last week. With Aranda out of the picture, Oregon State coach Gary Andersen moved quickly to hire Clune.

Clune's departure after only one season as Utah State's defensive coordinator means the Aggies must now replace four assistant coaches.

Earlier, offensive coordinator Josh Heupel left for Missouri, defensive line coach Ikaika Malloe moved to Washington, and safeties coach Joe Lorig took a job at Memphis.

Money seems like a huge factor in Clune's decision to leave Utah State.

According to the USA Today's assistant coach salary database, he was making $202,120 with the Aggies. Former Oregon State defensive coordinator Kalani Sitake, who is BYU's new head coach, earned $730,000.

Meanwhile, Oregon State is poised to hire another assistant with Utah connections. Weber State secondary coach Cory Hall will be named the Beavers' new linebacker coach.
