Clearfield • When Bonneville girls' basketball coach Ty Dunyon holds practice, he tries to set up situations that players might face during the season or even at the state tournament.

So it made perfect sense that senior Hannah Shore used that practice to make two free throws with 3.6 seconds left to give the Lakers a come-from-behind 50-49 victory at Clearfield Friday.

"When they are shooting free throws in practice, I whisper to them that a state title is on the line," said Dunyon, adding that he likes to create a feeling of pressure. "Hannah stepped up to that pressure."

Shore, who scored six of her team-high 17 points in the final 2:37 of the game when the Lakers were trying to complete a fourth-quarter comeback, admitted she was nervous at the line.

"We practice different scenarios," she said. "We talk about the last shot. ... It's a mental game."

This was a back-and-fourth game of streaks and runs by two teams that came into the game with identical 4-2 records and seem to be working to find some sort of identity.

Steady Savanna Shaw, another senior, scored 16, coming up with big points early in the game when the Lakers were struggling.

The Falcons are a young team, with only three seniors on the squad, who are led by sophomore guard Haylie Anderson. Spurred by Anderson's 28 points, they led much of the way, but struggled mightily in the fourth quarter.

With Anderson and junior center Rachel Watson playing well, the Falcons built a 44-37 lead going into the third quarter. But the Falcons managed just five points in the fourth period, including a layup by Anderson with 7.9 seconds to go.

That's when Shore, who scored a key basket with 53 seconds to play off a steal, was fouled as she raced to the basket. She converted both of them to give Bonneville only its second lead since midway through the second quarter.

Dunyon liked the way his team responded after trailing much of the way.

"It had the feeling of the pressure of a state tournament quarterfinal game," he said. "There were quite a few fans. We had the pressure of being down and the calls weren't going our way. I liked the resiliency and toughness of our kids."
