Provo • Timpview quarterback Kahi Neves has flipped his commitment from Utah and verbally pledged to Pac-12 South counterpart Arizona.

First reported by Jason Scheer of WildcatAuthority.com, Neves, who is expected to enroll mid-year after graduating early, later confirmed his decision with an announcement on Twitter.

The Tribune was unsuccessful in attempts to reach Neves for comment late Saturday evening.

In his first full season behind center during his transient high school career, Neves guided the Thunderbirds to the Class 4A championship game, where they lost to East, by throwing for 2,439 yards and 19 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. He added 470 yards and seven scores on 121 carries.

Neves, who is considered a consensus three-star prospect by every major recruiting outlet, played for six prep programs in four seasons, transferring from Santa Rosa (Calif.) to Kaiser (Hawaii) to Bishop Gorman (Nev.) to Bingham to Brighton and eventually landing at Timpview for his senior season.

Neves originally committed to play quarterback at Utah, but Scheer reports he intends on playing linebacker at Arizona, a position more fluent to his abilities. Neves, an agile 6-foot-4, 240-pound athlete, recorded 65 tackles and three sacks playing linebacker for Brighton in 2014.
