Emily Potter scored 28 points and grabbed 19 rebounds — a career high — in Utah's 74-58 win over Creighton Wednesday night.

"I did not know that was my stat line," she said. "Just credit my teammates for passing the ball and letting me take 20 shots."

If anyone's going to take 20 shots, the 6-foot-6 sophomore center is a great candidate. Her effort in the post led the Utes in the program's fifth straight victory at the Huntsman Center.

The Utes (5-2) came back from a 13-point deficit in the second quarter to win against a team that has bested them several times in the past few years. From defensive boards to back-to-the-basket spins and lay-ups off the glass, Potter was the centerpiece of Utah's rally.

"It's so nice to have a player that you can just count on to get boards," coach Lynne Roberts said. "She's got great length and good feel for the game."

The Utes closed a double-digit gap to one point by halftime, then took a 4-point lead.

Potter went 11 for 20 from the field and forcing Creighton (4-5) to double team.

That's when senior guard Dani Rodriguez took off, scoring 12 of her 18 points in the final quarter to stretch the 54-50 game into a 16-point win.

She hit the lane hard, sidestepping defenders for driving lay-ups. She also knocked back two of Utah's three 3-pointers in the final 10 minutes. Roberts had asked her top senior for aggressiveness and Rodriguez delivered.

"I started seeing the shots were there and the lanes were open," she said. "Once I started seeing that, I just clicked back, 'don't be tentative,' like coach said, and just take over."

Creighton took an 8-0 lead and the Utes bricked five shots before their first field goal. Utah was 5 for 17 in the first 10 minutes and allowed the Jays to hit 57 percent.

Four turnovers contributed to Creighton seizing a 20-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

"They were prepared for our zone," Roberts said.

The Utes ended up holding a good-shooting Jays team to only five 3-pointers, one of the team's goals for the game. Opposing point guard MC McGrory had 24 points on 9 of 10 shooting.
