Provo • It was somehow fitting that Alexa Gray provided the final kill on Saturday night at Smith Fieldhouse as BYU swept Western Kentucky 3-0 in an NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament second-round match.

Gray, the two-time West Coast Conference player of the year, dominated her final home match — improving to 51-1 personally in Smith Fieldhouse — with 22 kills as the Cougars advanced to the Sweet 16 for the fourth consecutive year.

The scores were 25-23, 25-17 and 25-20.

The Cougars will meet Big Ten champion Nebraska in the Sweet 16 after the Cornhuskers swept Wichita State 3-0 on Saturday night in Lincoln.

"We're excited," Gray said. "They are going to be ready, and we are going to be ready, and it will be a good match. We are excited to get back to the Sweet 16 and hopefully advance."

Playing much more crisply than Friday, when they outlasted Ohio 3-1, the Cougars dominated from the opening serve and hit .433 to WKU's .245.

"Last night we had a few too many errors," Gray said. "We cleaned that up a little bit. And we just kept our execution and our energy level high."

Junior middle blocker Amy Boswell added 10 kills and six blocks and Lacy Haddock chipped in nine kills and seven digs.

The Cougars trailed 13-10 in the second set before going on an 8-0 run to snuff the visitors' hopes for an upset. Gray had 10 kills in the second set.

Remarkably, BYU's fall and winter sports teams have yet to lose a match or game at home this semester. Women's volleyball went 14-0, women's soccer went 11-0, football went 6-0, men's basketball is 4-0 and women's basketball is 2-0.

"We love playing here," Gray said. "The crowd is incredible all the time and I am really going to miss it." —
