Tucson, Ariz • Utah entered Arizona Stadium one of the Pac-12's least-penalized teams.

Ten penalties for 112 yards later, it may have skewed that average a little.

The No. 10 Utes were not only frequently flagged in a 37-30 double-overtime loss to Arizona, but many were of the 10- and 15-yard variety.

Afterward, Kyle Whittingham didn't have a bad word to say about the refs. He blamed his own team.

"We gave them life, gave them momentum, and that's uncharacteristic because we have not been penalized much this year."

There wasn't a false start in the bunch:

Roughing the passer for 15 yards.

Pass interference for 7 yards.

Personal foul for 7 yards.

Unsportsmanlike conduct for 15 yards.

Holding for 10 yards.

Illegal block for 15 yards.

Pass interference for 15 yards.

Holding for 10 yards.

Pass interference for 15 yards.

Personal foul for 3 yards.

And Arizona committed more than its share of penalties, too, with eight for 71 yards.

Whittingham also cited what he believed to be Utah's loss in the turnover battle — in fact, Utah matched Arizona's total with interceptions by Brian Allen and Justin Thomas — as a key factor in the loss.

Travis Wilson played better than he had in his last two efforts against the Wildcats but was intercepted by Jamar Allah, who returned it 25 yards, shortly after the restart.

Utah survived that one, forcing a turnover on downs at its own 33.

But as Utah drove into Arizona territory, Jeff Worthy forced a Devontae Booker fumble and Parker Zellers pounced on it near midfield.

A field goal, on that drive, and Utah still would sit atop the Pac-12 South.

"By no means is this thing over, but what we don't do now is control our own destiny," Whittingham said. "... I know we have two games left, and we have to come back and be ready to be at our best next week against the Bruins."
