SUU (7–2, 6–0 Big Sky) currently sits alone on top of the Big Sky, after Eastern Washington fell to Northern Arizona on Saturday. The Eagles have a 5–1 conference record, followed by three teams with 4–2 marks in the Big Sky.

SUU moved up three sports in the Coaches' Poll and two spots in the STATS Poll, after being ranked No. 18/20 last week.

Portland State, SUU's next opponent, slipped to No. 16 in the Coaches' Poll and No. 15 in the STATS poll after falling to Northern Colorado on the road Saturday.

The No. 15 ranking in the Coaches' poll is the highest ranking the Thunderbirds have reached since making the move to Division I-AA (FCS).
