Wearing blood-stained zombie jerseys to celebrate Halloween wasn't sufficient to scare the visiting Idaho Steelheads, as the Utah Grizzlies dropped their Saturday matinee 3-1.

Two Steelheads players were the heroes on this particular day, forward Rob Linsmayer and goalie Phillipe Desrossiers. Linsmayer tallied two goals on recently acquired Grizzlies goaltender Chris Rawlings.

The first came after Rawlings made a spectacular diving save on Linsmayer but left an easy rebound that was deposited into the back of the net. The second gave Idaho an insurmountable lead at 3-0, a delicate wrister into the right-hand corner. And Desrossiers was equally spectacular, stopping 34 of 35 shots faced.

Both teams appeared fresh early despite a quick turnaround to follow Friday night's contest in Boise in which the Grizzlies won in commanding fashion 4-1. But as the game progressed, it appeared Idaho was the fresher of the two clubs.

The Grizzlies had several opportunities to start the contest but were unable to convert. Matt Berry missed a wide-open net, Erik Higby's shot glanced off the crossbar, and Utah couldn't take advantage of a five-on-three power play as Steelheads goalie Phillipe Desrossiers denied all 14 shots he faced in the opening period.

"The one with Berry, that was the game-changer," Utah coach Tim Branham said. "If we had scored that, we're up 1-0 and it's a completely different game."

The scoring woes would continue for the Grizzlies into the third as Phil Pietroniro waved on a shot with plenty of open ice in front of him. No matter how hard the Grizzlies scratched and clawed, they couldn't seem to figure out Desrossiers until forward Ryan Walters finally got the home team on the board, scoring on a one-timer at the 9:35 mark. Walters has scored in all of Utah's six games this season (four goals, five assists).

The Grizzlies had a golden opportunity to shorten the lead to one as two Steelheads defensemen found their way into the penalty box, but Utah once again was unable to take advantage of yet another five-on-three power play.

"If you don't score on five on threes, you don't deserve to win the game," Branham said.
