Logan • Utah State linebacker Kyler Fackrell has been named the Mountain West Conference's defensive player of the week, it was announced Monday.

Fackrell, a senior from Mesa, Ariz., earned league honors for the fourth time in his career.

With Fackrell leading the way, Utah State dominated high-powered Boise State during a 52-26 victory on Friday night. He finished with a season-high 11 tackles, including 2.5 for losses. He also recovered two fumbled and forced one.

In all, Utah State tied a school record by forcing eight Boise State turnovers. The Broncos had not committed as many in one game since 1989.

Fackrell's first fumble recovery led to a late first-quarter touchdown that gave the Aggies a 17-3 lead over Boise State. With less than two minutes remaining in the first half, Fackrell forced a fumble that was recovered by Utah State senior cornerback Bryant Hayes. The Aggies scored one play later to open a 38-10 advantage.

The Aggies (4-2, 3-0 Mountain West) return to action on Friday, when they take on San Diego State (3-3, 2-0) at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, Calif. The game kicks off at 8:30 p.m. MDT and will be televised on ESPN2.
