Lone Peak and Davis renewed their Class 5A girls' tennis tournament rivalry Wednesday as the first two rounds of the state meet were held at Liberty Park.

The two schools set up what could be another great finish during the finals Saturday. After Wednesday's matches, Lone Peak held a 10-9 lead over Davis.

The Knights won the title a year ago by edging the Darts by one point.

On Wednesday, Lone Peak's three singles players and two doubles teams advanced to the semifinals.

The Knights were led in singles by No. 1 Leah Heimuli, Annaliese County at No. 2, and Morgan Hall at No. 3. In doubles, freshmen sisters Daniela and Anna Aaron came in as the No. 1 team with Ellie Slighting and Cami Gricias at No. 2.

Davis is in contention for the team title, however, with No. 1 singles player Whitney Turley, No. 2 Eliza Hafen, and No. 3 Kate Baird joining No. 2 doubles players Morgan Barlow and Kristen Funk in advancing to the semifinals.

Viewmont ended the first two rounds in third with seven points followed by Jordan with five and Brighton, Bingham and Sky View with four.

The Class 4A girls' tennis players compete at Liberty Park on Thursday for their first two rounds. The 3A girls play at the same venue Friday. Semifinal and final matches in all three classifications will be decided Saturday at Liberty Park.

Last week, Rowland Hall turned in dominating performances to easily win the Class 2A championship.
