Logan • It didn't take long for Utah State's Kent Myers to become Offensive Player of the Week in the Mountain West Conference.

In his first start of the season, Myers was honored Monday after rushing for 191 yards and one touchdown in the Aggies' 33-18 victory over Colorado State.

A sophomore from Rowlett, Texas, Myers averaged 11.9 yards per carry. He broke the school record for rushing yards by a quarterback. The previous high was 121 yards, set by Tony Adams and Chuckie Keeton.

Myers got the start against CSU because Keeton sprained his knee in a 31-17 loss at Washington on Sept. 19. He is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks.

In the meantime, Myers will guide an offense that rushed for 298 yards, piled up 435 total yards and matched its previous season-high for points (17) in the first half against Colorado State.

"I'm just blessed I got the opportunity," Myers said. "I can't thank them enough."

Said coach Matt Wells: "He deserved it. … Kent played very well."

The Aggies resume conference play Saturday night at Fresno State. After opening the season with a 34-14 win over Abilene Christian, the Bulldogs have lost four straight to Ole Miss (73-21), Utah (45-24), San Jose State (49-23) and San Diego State (21-7).

"I know there will be rallying cries in Fresno," Wells said. "I know we will get their very, very best shot. They will be ready to play."

Aggies land Washington commit

Utah State has received a commitment from Juanita (Wash.) High School receiver-defensive back Makiah Gilmer, according to scout.com and the Seattle Times.

Gilmer (6-1, 180) visited Logan last weekend before making his decision. He also had offers from UNLV, Idaho, Portland State and Montana State.

"He decided it would be a great opportunity for him and his family. It's a great thing for our community," Juanita coach Lel Te'o told the Times.

So far this season, Gilmer has six receptions for 104 yards and has intercepted two passes.

Referee collision

Utah State sophomore cornerback Jalen Davis was involved in a strange play in the final minute against Colorado State.

With the Rams driving, quarterback Nick Stevens lofted a long pass into the end zone. It looked like Davis was going to run under the ball and intercept, but he collided with the back judge and the pass was incomplete.

Davis was shaken up on the play and left the game. He quickly returned, however, and got his revenge with 23 seconds remaining when Stevens was hit as he threw by linebacker Kyler Fackrell. Davis picked off the wobbly fourth-down pass.

Asked if the official said anything to him after their collision, Davis laughed and said, "Actually, he didn't. But it's all right. It was fate. I still got [an interception] at the end of the game."
