Denver • Von Miller smothered the loose football after T.J. Ward's sack-strip of Teddy Bridgewater in the closing seconds, sealing the Denver Broncos' 23-20 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

It was the seventh sack of the afternoon for the unbeaten Broncos (4-0), who got a 72-yard touchdown run from Ronnie Hillman and broke a 20-20 tie with a 39-yard field goal by Brandon McManus with 1:51 left.

Peyton Manning has led his teams to a 4-0 start seven times, most in NFL history by a long shot. Next up at four is Fran Tarkenton. Manning also joined Brett Favre as the only QBs to win 100 home starts in the NFL.

It wasn't a great day for Manning, who was picked off twice by the Vikings (2-2). They turned those into points and Adrian Peterson ran for a 48-yard touchdown to pull Minnesota to 20-17 and cap a 97-yard drive with 10 minutes left.

Free safety Harrison Smith's interception two plays later set up Blair Walsh's game-tying field goal from 33 yards with 5:11 left.

Peterson finished with 81 yards on 16 carries and Hillman had 103 yards on 11 carries.

But this was another story of Denver's defense.

The Broncos came in with 10 takeaways and although they harassed Bridgewater all afternoon, they couldn't get him to turn the ball over until his final drop-back of the day when Ward sliced into the backfield and swiped the ball from his grasp on second-and-10 from the Minnesota 47 with 29 seconds left.

Miller was there to smother it.

Ward had two sacks, Miller had one. So did DeMarcus Ware, Shane Ray and Corey Nelson. Sylvester Williams and Malik Jackson shared the other one.

The Broncos added eight quarterback hits and nine tackles for loss.
