Murray • In a high-scoring affair, the Murray Spartans pulled out a 35-27 victory over the Skyline Eagles and in the process made history.

It was the first time that the Spartans had beaten the Eagles in school history, and coach Mike Richmond knows how important this victory is to his team and the fans, not only because they got the victory but because they did so on homecoming night.

"This was our homecoming game and this was the first time Murray has beaten Skyline in a varsity football game. The guys played their hearts out and we're going to relish this victory."

The duo of quarterback Drew Cash and running back Hunter Jones proved to be too much for the Eagles.

The Spartans got off to a very fast start, scoring on their first possession when Cash connected with Isiah Gibson for a 34-yard touchdown completion to put Murray on top first. Hunter Jones made it 14-0 in favor of the Spartans when he rushed into the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown.

Taylor Larsen got the Eagles on the board when he was on the receiving end of a 70-yard bomb from George Weeks.

A touchdown run by Seth Kaelin tied the game up at 14-14 at the end of the first quarter.

The Eagles quickly got the lead back when Cash threw his second touchdown of the game, this time to Taylor Liston on a 20-yard reception.

A 7-yard touchdown run by Cash early in the third quarter and a 2-yard touchdown run by Jones put the Spartans up for good at 35-20 with 5 minutes left in the game.

A late touchdown by the Eagles proved to be too little too late.

"I'm very proud of the way our guys played tonight. They played their hearts out and while we still made some mistakes, we're happy to get the victory," said Richmond.

Drew Cash finished 20 for 33 for 220 passing yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Hunter Jones was the leading rusher for the Spartans with 171 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries. —
