Sandy • The Jordan Beetdiggers and Pleasant Grove Vikings clashed on Friday night in what looked to be a Jordan rout, before the Vikings suddenly stole all the momentum in the third quarter, coming back from a three-touchdown deficit to tie it. However, quarterback Drew Lisk led the charge and capped off a last-minute game-winning drive for the Beetdiggers, as they won 28-21.

"We've got to clean a lot of things and probably most importantly focus on ourselves. We've got to clean ourselves up before we do anything else," said a happy but also frustrated Jordan coach Eric Kjar.

Still, a "W" is a "W" and Lisk will take the win, along with the lessons learned from it. "I'd say we got a little too comfortable with that lead in the third quarter and early in the fourth we just didn't have it together, but that last drive was big time," said Lisk. "It was just huge for the win."

Lisk ran 18 times for 101 yards and two touchdowns. He also completed 14 of 34 passes for 180 yards. Alex Evans ran 14 times for 103 yards, including scoring the game-winning touchdown.

After losing former star quarterback Austin Kafentzis to graduation, the Beetdiggers look to have found a very capable replacement in Lisk, the former receiver.

"He's a really good player, he's a stud for us, gets us rolling, and he's pretty calm, which I like — doesn't get rattled too much," said Kjar. "Especially there late, we kind of know if we just kept throwing some mud, some of it would stick eventually."

The Beetdigger defense was stout in the first half as Jeffrey Timothy contributed an 80-yard pick-six. Despite the blown lead, Lisk knew his guys were in for a battle as they earned the hard-fought win. "They're not a team that's going to give up," he said. "They're going to keep fighting and they have the offense to do it." —
