West Jordan • For the inaugural game of the 2015 campaign, the West Jordan offense was primed for a big run against visiting Juan Diego. And it showed, with the host Jaguars scoring with high proficiency in the first half Friday night.

Only one problem, though, for the Jags: they were almost never able to contain the two-pronged Juan Diego rushing attack of Ryan Baker and Kaden Hayward. Baker ground out 134 yards while Hayward added 126 in a 43-33 victory.

"That team [West Jordan] won the linemen challenge," Baker said of a lifting competition at a University of Utah camp. "I'm very proud of our line, especially [center] Connor Dumont. He killed it tonight."

"We feel good about our two running backs. They were both stellar," Juan Diego coach John Colosimo said. "Anytime you rush for 270 yards, that's pretty good. It was a good night for the Soaring Eagle, no doubt."

Juan Diego (1-0) never punted in the first two quarters, and scored on short runs from Hayward and quarterback Alex Hoffman to go up 14-6. The visitors stretched the advantage to 28-13 with 1:23 left in the first half when Hoffman found Baker on a short pass and the JD junior rambled 65 yards for a touchdown.

But West Jordan (0-1) was resilient.

The Jaguars drove 72 yards in the last moments before intermission and capped the drive with a five-yard pass from Dylan Krans to Mack Wakley to make it a one possession game at 28-20.

West Jordan also scored the first TD of the game when Krans found Dallin Jamison on a 13-yard connection.

The home team, however, continued to have to play catch-up when Juan Diego scored on its first possession of the second half. The Soaring Eagle hit paydirt with a one-yard plunge by Hayward.

The Jaguars answered in short order, via a third-quarter two-yard touchdown run by Keenan Galeai to make the score 35-26, and were poised to get closer when Dalton Kelsch blocked Juan Diego's only punt of the night.

That gave West Jordan the ball at the JD 33, but the Jaguars uncharacteristically then went four-and-out and turned the ball over on downs. —
