Gunnison Valley Bulldogs

Gunnison Valley High School has, over the years, been known more as a basketball power than for its football prowess. The Bulldogs have not been a dominant player in the Class 2A state title chase most years.

First-year coach Jack Pay, who returns to his alma mater as a history and physical education teacher, is hoping to change that culture as soon as possible.

"I am excited to get this program up and running," he said.

That may require the offensive and defensive lines to quickly develop, but the skill players could be in place to help the Bulldogs show improvement.

Last year's record • 2-8.

Key returning players • Hunter Whitney, Kyler White, Conner Caldwell, Brayden Burrell and Layne Jensen.

Player to watch • Kyler White.

Biggest hole to fill • Offensive and defensive lines.

Need to know • New coach Jack Pay returns to his alma mater exactly 10 years after graduating from the school in South Sanpete County.
