Former Utah State defensive end Phil Olsen is a legend in Aggie football history. Now, he could earn his spot as a legend in all of college football.

Olsen is on the ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame it was announced Tuesday.

Olsen lettered three years for the Aggies from 1967-69 and was a 1969 consensus first-team All-American. During his time with the Aggies, USU compiled a 17-12-1 mark.

Olsen already is a member of the Utah Sports Hall of Fame, USU All-Century Football team, Utah State's Hall of Fame and was selected by Sports Illustrated as one of the State of Utah's Top 50 Athletes of the Century.

The Logan native was the fourth overall pick in the 1970 NFL draft by the Boston Patriots. He went on to play seven seasons in the NFL, including one with the Patriots, four with the Los Angeles Rams and two with the Denver Broncos.

He is the brother of another Aggie great, the late Merlin Olsen, who played with Phil on the Rams' 1971 and 1972 teams and is in the NFL Hall of Fame.

The announcement of the 2016 Hall of Fame Class will be made Friday, Jan. 8. Three former Aggies — Merlin Olsen, E.L. "Dick" Romney and John Ralston — have been inducted.
