Provo • Herriman sprinter and high jumper Kaysha Love and distance star Lucy Biles helped the Mustangs repeat as the Class 5A girls' track champions at the rainy Clarence Robison BYU track Saturday.

Maple Mountain, which lost the 4A title a year ago, used a win in the final 4x400 relay event to finally gain its first girls' track title in the day's closest team race.

Desert Hills dethroned Park City to win the 3A championship while Anna Camp led Millard to a hard-fought team title over North Summit and Panguitch easily defended its 1A team title.

Love won the 100 and 200 meter sprint races, anchored Herriman's 4x100 relay gold medal and finished third in the high jump as the Mustangs narrowly defeated rival Davis.

Biles shook off disappointing losses to Davis sophomore Aubrey Argyle in the 3200 and 1600 meters to finish her sterling career with a gutty win in the 800 meters and an anchor in the medley relay during a driving rainstorm.

"It is kind of exciting," said Love as she prepared to high jump. "We worked so hard. It's really great to have that competition…It is a really exciting meet.

Argyle established herself set a Class 5A record in the 3,200 meters Saturday to go with her Friday upset of Biles in the 1,600 meters.

"I did have a plan but it went nothing how the race went," she said. "I was expecting to draft off some people in the race, but I ended up leading it…This was a big confidence builder."

Millard junior Anna Camp turned in perhaps the day's best individual performance as she won the 3,200,1,600, 800 and 400 meters.

The surprising thing is that she doesn't like to run in the rain, something there was plenty of Saturday at BYU.

"I came into this year kind of hoping [for a four-event sweep]," she said. "My coaches believed in me. It feels good to have it done. I am kind of a wimp. I don't like to run in the rain. It affects my attitude."

Panguitch girls continued to show they rank among Utah's best small school groups of athletes ever.

The Bobcat girls' margin of victory in Class 1A was as impressive as the way Panguitch has dominated girls basketball with a 54-game winning streak.

Many of the same girls gave the Bobcats their third straight 1A girls title. Whitni Orton and Catania Holman swept the first two spots in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters. Orton, a junior, also took first in the 800 and a second in the 400 meters. behind Milford's Emily Barnes. Barnes also won the 1A 100-meter hurdles. Panguitch's Brenna Mooney earned the shot put. Bobcat Darri Frandsen took the discus title. And the Bobats won the medley and 4x100 relays.

Juab distance runner Kashley Carter finished her fine career by adding the 3,200 meter title Saturday to the 1,600 meters she won Friday.

Provo's Kate Hunter was a double winner in the 4A 3,200 meters and 800 meters Saturday.

Desert Hills dominated the 3A team meet with Abby Taylor getting a first in the long jump, Olivia Leavitt taking the 100 hurdles gold, Kaylee Carter winning the 300 hurdles

Fine Enterprise freshman sprinter Jaslyn Gardner began what will certainly be a memorable career by setting a Class 2A record in the 100 meters and getting a gold in the 200 meters.

Bear River sprinter Whitney Wilcox swept the 100, 200 and 400 meter golds in Class 3A.

Britney Lund, who won the 1,600 Friday, led Maple Mountain individuals while the Golden Eagles won the medley and climatic 4x400 relay to secure a narrow title against Orem, Salem Hills and defending champion Box Elder.
