Columbus, Ohio • Urban Meyer has received a contract extension through the 2020 season after a year in which he coached Ohio State to the national championship.

His previous contract ran through the 2017 season and would have paid him $4.9 million for 2015. The new terms and extension give Meyer a six-year deal. He will make $5.8 million in total compensation for 2015. His contract will average at least $6.5 million a year over the next six years.

He said in a statement Monday he is "honored" to "represent this great university."

Meyer has led Ohio State to a 38-3 record and is undefeated in Big Ten regular-season play at 24-0. The Buckeyes defeated Oregon last season to win the first College Football Playoff.
