BASEBALL • Utah rallied for three runs in the seventh inning and went on to beat sixth-ranked Arizona State 6-5 in a Pac-12 game Friday at Smith's Ballpark.

Utah broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kody Davis led off the inning with his first career home run to give Utah the lead. Hunter Simmons added a double in the inning, and AJ Young had a sacrifice fly.

Utah (10-18, 4-7) added an insurance run in the eighth inning.

The Sun Devils (20-8, 8-3) made things interesting in the ninth inning, scoring three runs on four hits. ASU had the game-tying run on third base before reliever Bret Helton got a fly out to end the inning.

Portland 6, BYU 3 • In Provo, Portland pitcher Kurt Yinger held the Cougars to three runs over eight innings as the last-place Pilots won the West Coast Conference game.

Brennon Lund extended his hitting streak to 10 games for the Cougars (13-17, 5-6).

Utah overpowers California, 12-10

SOFTBALL • Utah rallied for six runs in the fifth inning to beat California 12-10 in a Pac-12 game at Dumke Family Stadium. Second baseman Hannah Flippen was 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs for the Utes (26-13, 4-7), while Kate Dickman and Marissa Mendenhall also hit homers.

BYU 7, Saint Mary's 4 (10) • In Moraga, Calif., the Cougars scored four runs on four hits in the top of the 10th inning to win their West Coast Conference opener. BYU's McKenna Bull pitched the complete game and recorded 14 strikeouts, holding the Gaels to three runs on 10 hits with three walks. Catcher Sydney Broderick was 3 for 5 for BYU (22-9. 1-0), while Gordy Bravo, Ashley Thompson and Lacey Hofstedt each had two hits.

UNLV 14, Utah State 12 • In Logan, USU's Hailey Froton went 4 for 5 and hit for the cycle, but the Rebels prevailed in the slugfest as each team had 16 hits. Freshman pitcher Paige Mills made her first start for Utah State (12-23, 4-4 Mountain West) but last 11⁄3 innings, giving up four runs on four hits.

Utah Valley 3, Cal State-Bakersfield 1 • In Orem, UVU pitcher Bailey Moore went the distance, striking out five and scattering seven hits as the Wolverines earned their first Western Athletic Conference victory of the season. Utah Valley's Brittney Vansway broke a scoreless tie with a two-run single in the third inning, and Cera Stanley ripped a solo homer in the fourth.

Idaho State 7-8, Weber State 5-0 • In Pocatello, Idaho, the Bengals swept the doubleheader, handing the Wildcats their first two Big Sky Conference losses of the season. Shortstop Aubrey Whitmer and third baseman Alyson Kulp each had two hits in the doubleheader for Weber State (35-13, 6-2), with Whitmer hitting an RBI double and Kulp hitting a home run.

USU sweeps Air Force

Men's tennis • In Logan, Utah State's Dennis Baumgartner defeated Air Force's Grant Taylor 6-1, 7-5 in the No. 1 singles match, and the Aggies (15-7, 3-1) swept the Falcons, 7-0.
