Pleasant Grove • Mathew "Bub" Wilde is used to being second-hand news compared to his Pleasant Grove counterparts, Easton Walker and Payton Henry.

Wednesday afternoon was no different. The brisk wind funneling from nearby Utah Lake had begun to taper as heat from the spring sun intensified at Pleasant Grove. Onlookers folded cotton blankets and disrobed winter jackets.

The top-ranked Vikings were heating up, too. In the bottom of the third, American Fork intentionally walked Henry, a future UNLV slugger, instead betting its chips against Wilde.

Wrong choice. Wilde delivered a run-scoring single. An inning later, Wilde was thrust into a similar situation: two down, but three on.

The cleanup hitter bombed his first career grand slam over the left field fence, cushioning PG's lead to seven in an eventual 10-0 mercy-rule win in five innings.

"[Opposing teams are] always walking Payton Henry, and that's hard to come up behind him, because he's always so clutch," said Wilde, whose childhood nickname has become his full-time descriptor. "… Our whole lineup is good all the way through. You don't want to pitch to anybody."

Little Big Town's newest single "Day Drinking" escorted Pleasant Grove into pregame warm-ups. Lyrically, "Everybody always waiting on Friday, watching that clock, and sitting on go," proved accurate — minus screwdrivers or Bloody Marys, of course.

The Vikings (7-0) will attempt to sweep the Cavemen (6-3) on Friday after overcoming an 11-3 deficit in the first game of the three-game series on Tuesday. All three of American Fork's losses this season occurred against Pleasant Grove.

"We want to come out Friday and make sure we have the game we just played today," Vikings coach Darrin Henry said after his postgame speech, where he challenged his team to remain hungry. "We never [want to let] a day go that we don't get better."

PG's Easton Walker, a BYU signee, went 3 for 4 from the plate. In the fourth inning, he hustled out an infield single, which eventually led to Ben Eldredge's bases-loaded walk. It was the first of nine runs scored with two outs. Eldredge's three-run homer capped the mercy-rule limit in the fifth inning.

"Our guys grinded out pitches to get deep into the count," Henry said. "They came through in the clutch."

None more clutch than "Secondhand Bub."
