The Aggies opened spring football on Monday with a workout that coach Matt Wells characterized as important for setting the tone for his team in 2015.

"We're excited about being out here on the grass and coaching these kids," he said. "The biggest thing about today is re-setting the Aggie standard and that is something we've talked about in our team meetings and staff meetings. We never take anything for granted and how we practice will never change."

The Aggies had 103 players participate in the workout as several key returners, such as Nick Vigil, Kyler Fackrell and LT Filiaga, didn't participate as they continue to recover from injuries.

Key positions in which the Aggies are focusing this spring include the quarterback position, linebacker and the secondary.

"There are veterans in some spots, but there are a lot of new faces and the how we do it and the how we practice is the first emphasis," Wells said. "Then there will be different competitions at different spots, including who will emerge at safety, at running back and at linebacker."

The Aggies are scheduled to practice Tuesday and Thursday this week, with Thursday's session the first in pads.

The annual Blue vs. White game will be held April 11 at 2 p.m.
