Las Vegas • BYU guards Kyle Collinsworth and Tyler Haws on Tuesday were named to the 2014-15 Men's College Basketball All-District VIII Team. The district includes schools in Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

Utah's Delon Wright is the District VIII Player of the Year and Boise State's Leon Rice is the Coach of the Year.

Haws made the All-District Team for the third-straight season, while the honor this year is the first for Collinsworth, who had his sixth triple-double of the season in Monday's 84-70 win over Portland.

Haws is a finalist for the Wooden Award, the Senior CLASS Award and the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award. He entered Tuesday's West Coast Conference championship game third in the nation with a 22.1 scoring average.

Collinsworth was averaging 13.5 points, 8.7 rebounds and 5.9 assists prior to Tuesday's game.

The Cougars have had at least one player on the All-District Team since 2005-06, when Keena Young was selected. Former Cougars Trent Plaisted, Lee Cummard, Jimmer Fredette, Jackson Emery, Noah Hartsock and Brandon Davies have also been honored by the United States Basketball Writers Association.

Haws climbs NCAA scoring charts

Haws scored 16 points in Monday's game to move past Navy's David Robinson (2,669 points) and into 24th place on the all-time NCAA Division I scoring list. He had 2,679 through halftime of Tuesday's game.

With a couple more big scoring games, Haws can conceivably move into the top 20. Northeastern's Reggie Lewis currently ranks 20th on the all-time list, with 2,708 points.

Title drought

Prior to Tuesday's game, the Cougars had played in four conference championship games in coach Dave Rose's 10 seasons, losing all four.

BYU fell 78-70 to UNLV in 2007, 76-61 to UNLV in 2011, 72-54 to San Diego State in 2011 and 75-64 to Gonzaga last year.

The Cougars last won a conference championship game on March 10, 2001, in Las Vegas against New Mexico. Rose assisted Steve Cleveland on that team.
