Colorado Springs • Utah State's Funda Nakkasoglu has been named the Mountain West Conference's Freshmen of the Year, it was announced Monday.

In a vote of the 11 women's basketball coaches in the league, Nakkasoglu was also named a member of the all-freshman team after averaging 18.9 points and 5.1 assists in Mountain West play. She scored at least 20 points in eight games, including a season-high of 28 against New Mexico on Jan. 10.

Nakkasoglu, who is from Australia, topped the coaches' all-freshmen team. She was joined by Fresno State's Bego Faz Davalos, New Mexico's Cherise Beynon, San Diego State's McKynzie Fort and UNLV's Nikki Wheatley.

Colorado State's Gritt Ryder and Fresno's Alex Sheedy were name the Mountain West's co-Players of the Year.

New Mexico's Yvonne Sanchez earned her first Coach of the Year award after guiding the Lobos to a second-place finish in the league standings.

Nevada senior Mimi Mungedi was named Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Fresno State senior Raven Fox was chosen as the Sixth Man of the Year and Wyoming junior Jordan Kelley was named Newcomer of the Year.

The all-conference team consisted of Boise State's Deanna Weaver, Colorado State's Ellen Nystrom, Nevada's Mimi Mungedi, New Mexico's Antiesha Brown, San Jose State's Ta'Rea Cunnigan, UNLV's Alana Cesarz, Wyoming's Kayla Woodward, UNLV's Danielle Miller and Wyoming's Marquelle Dent, along with Sheedy, Ryder and Mungedi,
