Orem • Delta's Brady Poulsen lay motionless on the center mat. The sophomore had lost consciousness, disqualifying him from further competition. With the assistance of his coaches, he exited the spotlight, his legs wobbling, when he caught the eye of his older brother.

Trevor Poulsen's name echoed from the loudspeaker at the UCCU Center Saturday night. Seven pounds heavier, he was next. There was no time to worry. Without words — more of a confident reassurance — Brady let Trevor know he'd be alright.

That's all he needed. One year after losing in heartbreaking fashion in the finals, Trevor accomplished his lifelong goal with a 4-3 decision against Millard's Caleb Rasmussen in the 113-pound division.

"I did it!" he yelled as he leaped into his coach's outreached arms before hugging his brother on the sidelines.

"It just pushed me harder," Trevor said of his brother's injury, which turned out to be the one of two setbacks in nine final appearances for the Rabbits in the championship round.

Delta captured the Class 2A wrestling title for the seventh consecutive season with a 284.5 overall team score for its 33rd title — the most from one school for any one sport.

"It means a lot to me because my whole family has been through Delta," said Delta sophomore Jason Hatch, who claimed the 152-pound division title. "I've always wanted to wrestle for Delta. It's just the greatest feeling knowing I'm part of it now."

Millard finished second with 220 points, while South Summit (174.5), North Sevier (156) and Beaver (138.5) rounded out the top five.

"It's a pretty great thing. I'm really grateful to be in the program that I'm in," said Delta's Bracken Lovell, who secured his second individual title in the 138-pound division. "I'm really lucky to be where I'm from."

After the second round on the opening day, the Rabbits were in third place, forcing the team to hold an impromptu meeting to refocus the troops.

"We got to step it up. We got a big round coming into the semifinals — we had 12 guys in and nine guys pushed through to the finals. That was huge," Lovell said when asked what message was relayed in the meeting. "That's the coaches, and the team unity. I love it."

Class 3A

Payson locked down its second consecutive state championship before its impending move to Class 4A.

The Lions had 19 pins, tied for the most in 3A with Morgan. Josh Jensen accounted for three of those en route to his individual title in the 126-pound division. He defeated Uintah's Kedric Coonis in a 10-5 decision.

Juab (172), Uintah (161.5), Tooele (141) and Desert Hills (133.5) completed the top five.

The Thunder made headway in the heavyweights. Cody and Tyler Stevenson topped the 195 and 220-pound divisions, while Trevor Ottenschot, who advanced to the finals despite a significant weight disadvantage, fell to Payson's Brian Hoschouer, 5-4, in the 285-pound division.

Class 1A

Duchesne's sophomore David VanTassel kept his perfect streak alive with his second individual title in the 106-pound division, dominating Altamont's Danny Thompson in a 6-0 decision.

"I think this one is a little sweeter," VanTassel said. "My personal opinion is it sounds a little better. Instead of state champ, now [it's] two-time. I think that sounds better."

The match proved imperative to the Eagles securing the Class 1A title with an overall score of 181.5, slightly edging the pre-tournament favorite Longhorns, who finished with 175 points. Monticello, the defending champion, placed third with 133.5 points.

Monticello's Cole Eldredge (152 pounds) and Altamont's Rylee Foy (182) became the 30th and 31st players in state history to win four individual state titles, both ending their high school careers with a pin.

Monticello's Zac Musselman prevented Altamont's Brady Farnsworth from accomplishing the same four-time status with an upset pin at the 2:40 juncture in the 126-pound division.
