Orem • The Class 4A 160-pound championship bout featured two similar wrestlers. Both had bleach blonde hair, equal in height and appearance, and shared the same last name.

Wasatch's senior Spencer Heywood defeated his younger brother, Ritchie, a sophomore, in a 3-1 decision at the UCCU Center on Thursday evening to capture the individual title.

"So stinking proud," Spencer said of Ritchie. "It's awesome. It's kind of like wrestling myself, honestly. I feel like I could almost feel what's going through his head, like thoughts during a match."

Spencer was supposed to be there — Ritchie wasn't. The younger Heywood entered the Class 4A state tournament as the fifth seed and proceeded to upset Woods Cross' Wyatt Price (No. 4), Roy's Connor Kirkland (No. 1) and Logan's Logan Harrison (No. 2) to reach the championship match.

"We kind of started off doing the Little Wasps, which is like a rec program," Spencer said. "We kind [of] figured we like rolling around, and just grown up getting better and better. Dad has taken us all across the country to magnify our talents. We've grown up together."

Despite the loss, Ritchie still left the arena as a champion. The Wasps won the Class 4A title with an overall team score of 270.5.

"I'm so pumped up. I'm so glad to put Mountain Crest and Maple Mountain back in their spots," Ritchie said.

The Golden Eagles (243.5) and Mustangs (231.5) finished second and third, respectively.

Maple Mountain's Taylor Lamont capped off a perfect 61-0 season by pinning Mountain Crest's Trevor Lowe for his third individual state championship of his career. Roy's Damian Trujillo also finished the season unscathed at 41-0 after pinning Wasatch's Ben Bos.
