Logan • If there is a favorable stretch of Utah State's schedule in the balanced Mountain West Conference this season, the Aggies started it Tuesday night.

Following its game against Nevada (7-15) at the Spectrum, Utah State has a week off before playing at last-place San Jose State on Feb. 18. Back-to-back home game against Fresno State and UNLV follow.

If the Aggies are looking ahead, however, coach Stew Morrill doesn't want to hear it.

Before playing the Wolf Pack, he said, "I know it's coach-speak, but I don't think we're in a position to look past one game. … We just have to keep playing and get as many wins as we can. That's what it's all about. We're not talking about the next two [or] the next five. We never do that. We just try and focus on the next game."

Showing promise

Utah State redshirt freshman David Collette entered the game against Nevada on a roll.

Collette finished with 10 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks in Saturday's 63-60 victory at New Mexico. It was the fifth time in six games he scored in double figures and his second straight game with four blocked shots.

Significantly, Collette finished with three fouls after picking up two in the opening 4 1/2 minutes. In a four-game stretch, he fouled out only once, running his season total to seven.

"He's [been] very, very active," Morrill said. "… We sometimes forget David's a freshman. He's getting better as we go, for sure. Most of our guys are, I think."

Tough place to play

All-time, Nevada had won only three of 21 previous games in the Spectrum.

"It's a tough environment," coach David Carter told the Reno Gazette-Journal. "Coach Morrill's kids are always prepared. They play with a little more energy at home. It's a really tough place to play. It certainly hasn't been an easy game for us to play over the years."

According to Carter, the Wolf Pack needed to slow Aggie sophomore Jalen Moore, who had 14 second-half points in Utah State's 70-54 win at Nevada on Jan. 20.

"The difficult part is how they move him around," he "said. "Coach Morrill does a good job of disguising where he is. It's one of those things where we have to stay attached to him."
