Provo • Before the 24th game of the season for the BYU Cougars on Saturday night, coach Dave Rose shuffled his starting lineup.

Again.

Partly because junior point guard Kyle Collinsworth suffered a bruised tailbone on Thursday against San Francisco, Rose started freshman Dalton Nixon at the four spot against Santa Clara.

However, senior guard Skyler Halford started in the place of Chase Fischer, who had started all 23 of his games at BYU before the surprise benching. Fischer hit the first three 3-pointers he attempted after subbing in for Anson Winder with 13:56 remaining in the first half.

It was the first career start for Nixon. Freshman Corbin Kaufusi made his second start, having supplanted sophomore Luke Worthington on Thursday.

"I think we've made some big changes late in the season over the course of the 10 years, but this one, because we are playing so differently than what we have done in the past, I would say that this is [the most change]," Rose said Thursday after inserting Kaufusi into the lineup.

Collinsworth dressed for the game, but did not play in the first half. The only other dressed player who didn't play in the first half was senior Josh Sharp.

Haws passes Ainge

With one of his patented mid-range jumpers from the baseline, Tyler Haws moved past Danny Ainge and into second place on BYU's all-time scoring list on Saturday night.

Haws entered the game needing three points to pass Ainge, and he made his first two shots to do it in the first three minutes.

Ainge had 2,467 in his four-year career from 1977-81, but did it without the benefit of the 3-point shot.

"It would be fun. Danny was a great player," Haws said before the game when asked what it would be like to pass the former Cougar legend. "It is just an honor to have my name up there with them, but you gotta give all the credit to my teammates. I just want to get a win. Everything is better when you win."

Haws had 12 points in the first half.

Jimmer Fredette is the school's all-time leader with 2,599 points.

Briefly

The Cougars missed their first five free-throw attempts as Anson Winder got fouled on the first possession while taking a 3-pointer and missed all three. Skyler Halford and Frank Bartley IV then missed the front end of a one-and-one opportunities before Haws made a couple freebies.
