In a game set to establish Region 6 supremacy, Bountiful reaffirmed its title as king.

The Braves exposed an undersize Highland squad, using an early 15-0 run to cruise to an easy 78-61 victory to win their 40th consecutive region bout.

"It's been a long time. These kids don't want to lose," Bountiful coach Mike Maxwell said of the streak, which started with a loss against Olympus in 2011. "Frankly, if they play hard and together, they have a chance every night. [If] somebody is going to beat us, it's going to take a heck of an effort."

Zac Seljaas led all scorers with 27 points, Collin Parrish added 18 points and Jeff Pollard finished with 11. With his significant size advantage on the interior, Parrish elevated his offensive production 15 points above his season average.

"He's been doing the dirty work for us all year long," said Maxwell of Parrish. "Last game, he had eight assists. My center is getting eight assists and 14 rebounds. He does all the little stuff, and tonight he got some points, too."

With 48.7 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Highland's Spencer Divver pocketed a corner 3-pointer to pull even at 13 apiece before Seljaas buried a step-back jumper as time expired.

The triple initiated a 15-0 run highlighted by another Seljaas 3-ball, this time in transition, and a three-point play off Pollard's dunk with contact.

"We got them in foul trouble, and so all of sudden they're playing with a bunch of little guys," said Maxwell, crediting the switch to a defensive zone. "Of course we're going to win. We're too big for that. It was fortunate for us. That's basketball."

Highland's leading scorer, Brandon Warr, took an elbow to his face in the first quarter, which required stitches to stop the bleeding from the gash beneath his eye. He returned in the fourth to score four points.

"That's their best player going out," Maxwell said. "I'm looking out there, and I'm seeing a JV team practically for Highland. I felt bad for them, but you can't feel too bad. You attack and build your lead. Next time we play them, I'm sure it's going to be a whole different game."

Bountiful opened the third quarter on an 11-0 rally to capture its largest lead, 50-20. Ryan Lambson (20 points) and Divver (11) sprouted a 10-0 run in response, but Highland's chances had already eroded. Max Wilson scored 14 points in the loss.
