Eighty-seven percent of Utahns either definitely (55 percent) or probably (32 percent) think Utah should play BYU each year, according to a Dan Jones and Associates poll commissioned by Utah Policy.

The poll of 402 Utah residents also found that 24 percent count Utah football as their favorite team, tied for first with the NBA's Utah Jazz. Twenty percent favor BYU football, 10 percent most enjoy Real Salt Lake soccer, and 4 percent think Utah's men's basketball team is the bee's knees.

Also in the cross-tabs, 76 percent of Utahns think Utah athletic director Chris Hill is doing a "fair" or better job, with 17 percent responding that they don't know.

Seven percent think Hill is doing a poor job, higher than BYU's Tom Holmoe (5 percent), Weber State's Jerry Bovee (1 percent) and Utah State's Scott Barnes (just one respondent), despite most recently fielding ranked basketball, football, men's swimming, volleyball, women's gymnastics and skiing teams.

Eighty-eight percent felt Utah men's basketball coach Larry Krystkowiak is doing a "fair" or better job, with 52 percent feeling that he is doing an "excellent" job.

Ninety-four percent think Utah football head coach Kyle Whittingham is doing a "fair" or better job. Thirty-eight percent feel that he is doing an excellent job.
