Everyone knew Georgia Dabritz could rock the vault, uneven bars and floor, but the balance beam? Well, apparently the senior can handle herself on that event as well.

Dabritz delivered a 9.85 on Friday to win the all-around with a 39.6 and help the Utes score a 196.675 in their home opener Friday.

"I felt pretty good up there," she said. "It was a last minute thing to put me in, but I stayed strong mentally."

Dabritz replaced Kailah Delaney, who struggled some this week in practice and had some dizzy spells, Utah coach Greg Marsden said.

"We thought we would let Georgia take a stab at it and it looked like a good decision tonight," he said.

Dabritz' balance beam score was the high score for the Utes on the event.

She has had a long-standing rocky relationship with the balance beam throughout her career, preventing her from vying for the national all-around title, but it looks like judging from Friday's event she may have her issues resolved.

"It has been fun for me, but I still want what is best for the team," she said. "If not putting me in one event is best for the team, then I am OK with that too."

Dabritz only performed on the beam twice last season, scoring 9.65 against Stanford and 9.875 against Oregon State.

When she is in the all-around, she is one of the best in the country, Marsden said.

"It's good for her to demonstrate to herself and her teammates that she can be consistent," he said of her beam performances. —
