Spanish Fork • Timpview needed "The Twins" out of foul trouble. Tied at halftime, Lacy Haddock was forced to fly solo while her sister, Lyndie, rested with two personal fouls.

"They really make us go," Thunderbirds coach Justin Snell said at Maple Mountain Tuesday night.

The Eagles' attacking style was collapsing Timpview's signature man-to-man defense, putting Lyndie in precarious situations guarding Liz Eaton, one of the top scorers in Class 4A.

So Snell switched to the 1-3-1 zone, a strategy that paid off as Timpview strengthened its hold on Region 8 with a 63-47 win.

"We're just focusing on getting better," said Lacy Haddock, who scored a season- and game-high 25 points. "These games matter because they're region, but we're really focusing on peaking at the right time, which is the state tournament."

After opening the season 1-3, the Thunderbirds (8-4, 4-0) have won 7 of 8, including five straight with wins against the upper echelon of Region 8: Springville, Salem Hills and Maple Mountain.

"I'm actually thrilled we've beaten each one in a little bit of a different way," Snell said. "To come in tonight and play some zone, I think shows the development of the girls. As long as we keep improving, I think the girls have a lot of potential."

Maple Mountain (8-4, 2-2) used its 18-4 run for a short-lived 25-22 advantage in the second quarter before Lacy Haddock powered home a layup to stop the bleeding.

After the Haddock sisters combined for 10 points in the third, Lacy Haddock's three-point play on the opening possession of the fourth and Seattle Sperry's 10-foot jumper provided Timpview enough cushion to milk the clock offensively.

Lyndie Haddock chipped in 11 of her 15 points in the second half, while Haylee Harrison (10) and Ashley King (8) scored 18 points for the T-Birds.

Eaton finished with a team-high 15 points, nearly 10 points off her season average after going scoreless in the second half against the zone until the final minute. Elli Eastmond added 10 points, and sophomore guard Nicole Heyn finished with nine.

Timpview travels to crosstown rival Provo on Friday, while Maple Mountain hosts Wasatch the same night.
