Utah Valley improves to 14-1 at home with win over UT Rio Grande Valley

Orem • Jake Toolson and Brandon Randolph each scored 16 points and Utah Valley knocked off Texas Rio Grande Valley, 84-72 in a Western Athletic Conference contest Saturday night.

Utah Valley finishes the regular season with a 14-1 record on its home floor after snapping New Mexico State's 11-game win streak. The Wolverines close the regular season at CSU Bakersfield and at Grand Canyon.

New Mexico State remains atop the WAC, but Utah Valley (19-8, 8-3) is tied with Seattle for second place, one game back with two games to play. UT Rio Grande Valley (14-14, 5-6) is fifth, one game behind Grand Canyon.

Xavier McDaniel Jr. hit two free throws with under two minutes to play to get the Vaqueros within six, 78-72, but they could get no closer. Randolph converted four straight free throws and Toolson added two more to set the final margin.

Utah Valley shot 51.9 percent from the field (28 for 54), including 7 of 17 from deep, and converted 21 of 25 from the line. Jerrelle DeBerry added 12 points and Connor Toolson contributed 10.

Nick Dixon scored 21 points to lead UT-RGV. Terry Winn added 15.
