Sundance unfurls — and skis with — massive flag to wish U.S. Olympians well at the Winter Games in South Korea

(Al Hartmann | The Salt Lake Tribune) Sundance Mountain Resort partnered with Follow the Flag to ski a giant American Flag down Bearclaw run. The flag is 78' x 150' and weighs more than 400 pounds, the largest free-flying American flag in the world. It took coordination of 50 of Sundance's best skiers to pull it off. This event is to express patriotism and support of Team USA and athletes representing the country in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Sundance Resort employees unfurled an American flag — 78 feet wide by 150 feet long and weighing more than 400 pounds — on the slopes of the Provo Canyon ski area on Wednesday.

The display on Bearclaw run was designed to help wish U.S. athletes well as they prepare for the 2018 Winter Olympics, which begin Friday in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Sundance partnered with Follow the Flag, a nonprofit founded in Pleasant Grove in 2015. The resort offered first responders and veterans 50 percent off lift tickets in conjunction with the event.
