Riverton • Bingham's student section coordinated itself in hunting gear featuring ghillie suits and Davy Crockett hats. It was wolf season at Riverton Friday night.

Behind their talented front-court trio, the Miners (2-0) never trailed before closing out the Silverwolves 56-32 on the back of a 17-2 run in the fourth quarter.

"Last year, we were in the same situation, up by 12 coming into the fourth," said Bingham big man Yoeli Childs. "They got 28 in the fourth quarter and beat us on our home court. We said we can't let that happen; we got to show we're a different team than last year."

Childs finished with 15 points and nine boards while primarily operating out of double and triple teams the entire night. His emphatic flat-footed hammer dunk gave Bingham a 13-6 lead after the first.

"I am extremely happy," Bingham coach Jake Schroeder said. "This Bingham-Riverton thing — it's huge. It's a big rivalry. It was fun."

Jared Holman added 14 points, and Josh Newbold chipped in 10, including a silky 3-pointer in the fourth.

Bingham led 30-14 at halftime with Riverton struggling to find an offensive rhythm against the Miners' extended 1-2-2 defense.

"We're just matching up to them and trying to speed them up," Schroeder said. "We were pretty successful for it."

Jaron Jones, whom Bingham's students succinctly labeled a "one-man wolf pack," sparked Riverton in the third quarter with seven points. He finished with 12; Joe Andrews scored eight points.

The 'Wolves pulled within single digits, 39-30, off Spencer Anderson's 3-pointer with six minutes remaining before Bingham responded with 17 consecutive points.

The Miners now have wins by 25 and 24 points to open the season. When asked if he felt they were the best team in the state, Newbold said plainly: "I think we're up there."

Both teams return to action on Tuesday. Riverton (1-1) travels to Murray, and Bingham plays at Herriman.
