men's basketball • Mitch Bruneel scored 27 points and Zach Nelson added 24 to lead Utah Valley to an 85-75 victory over Southern Utah on Saturday night at the Centrum.

The Thunderbirds owned a 34-33 lead at halftime. It was still 61-60 with less than eight minutes to play before the Wolverines rallied and eventually pulled away.

A.J. Hess led Southern Utah with 12 points. Cal Hanks added 11.

With the win, Utah Valley bumped its record to 2-1. The Thunderbirds, playing at home for the first time this season, slipped to 0-3.

Utah Valley beats Weber State 61-41

women's basketball • Behind a career high 19 points from Patrice Toston, UVU defeated in-state rival Weber State on Saturday, 61-40, at the UCCU Center.

Toston shot 8 for 11 from the field and added a 3-pointer and two free throws.

byu 65, nevada 60 • Lexi Eaton scored a season-high 29 points to lead BYU to a victory over Nevada on Saturday night at the Marriott Center.

women's volleyball • No. 12 BYU beat Gonzaga in a come-from-behind win, 21-25, 17-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-10, Saturday in Provo.

women's soccer • Westminster lost, 3-0, at Northwood University (Fla.) on Saturday morning in the 31st annual NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round.
