Boulder, Colo. • For the second straight year, the Colorado Buffaloes have ousted the BYU Cougars from the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.

Homestanding Colorado scored a goal in each half and held off BYU 2-0 at cold and snowy Prentup Field on Saturday afternoon in a first-round match. The Buffaloes (14-6-1), who placed third in the Pac-12, move on to face North Carolina in the second round.

The West Coast Conference champion Cougars (13-5-3) carried the run of play for most of the match, but could not solve CU goalkeeper Kate Scheele.

Olivia Pappalardo scored for Colorado six minutes into the match, her second goal of the season.

Madison Krauser added an insurance goal early in the second half, her third.

Kat Snyder made seven saves in goal for BYU, but took the loss.

BYU outshot Colorado 20-10, but the Buffaloes put nine of their shots on frame, as opposed to BYU's eight.

WCC Player of the Year Ashley Hatch had an opportunity early in the second half to provide the equalizer, but her goal mouth shot sailed over the cross bar and moments later Krauser put CU up 2-0. Marissa Nimmer led the Cougars with four shots, while Hatch and freshman Nadia Gomes had three apiece.

Last year, CU downed BYU 2-1 in a second-round tournament match in Tallahassee, Fla. —
