Based on big wins over 4A and 5A powers through the course of this season, Morgan High certainly could have laid claim to being one of the best volleyball teams in Utah for 2014.

But another Class 3A team, Snow Canyon, wasn't about to let the accolades fall where they may.

And now its the Warriors that are deserving of the highest honor in the state volleyball ranks after winning a thrilling five-set state championship Thursday night.

When the smoke cleared, and with Snow Canyon passing around the 3A state trophy, it was the Warriors who prevailed over Morgan 25-16, 25-15, 15-25, 22-25, 15-13 at Utah Valley University.

"It's just a feeling in your heart like it's exploding," said Snow Canyon junior Alexsa "Crash" Parker, who blasted 25 kills in the title game victory. "You just feel fantastic, the greatest feeling you'll ever feel ever."

Parker, whose mother Alaina Parker is the Warriors' coach and who got her nickname after wrecking on her bike as a child, was on the back row when Morgan stormed back from a deficit in the critical fifth set.

The Trojans once trailed by five points but rebounded to tie at 11-11 after a four-point run.

With the score deadlocked at 12-12, Parker rotated back to the front row and immediately smacked a kill. That was answered in kind by a putaway from Morgan's Jaiden Farr, but Parker got the last two kills of the match - the last coming when she found the far left corner uncovered - to bring Snow Canyon the championship.

"They really came out in those (third and fourth) sets and, I don't know, but we came into the fifth set and said to ourselves, 'We have this,'" Parker said.

Snow Canyon stormed to fairly easy victories in the first two sets as the normally powerful Trojans attack was stifled in turns by the hitting of Parker and fellow outside hitter Jordan Gines, the serving of Shaylee Reed at one point, and some big blocks put up from Katie Fisher.

In the first set, Fisher got her hands on three kill attempts from Morgan during a 6-0 Warriors run to end that opening set.

"We've been working hard on our block. It was the best feeling in the world," Fisher said. "It was a lot of hard work, but so much fun."

Behind the serves of Kennedy Wortman, Morgan began its comeback with nine straight points to open the third set. Through the bulk of the third and fourth sets, the Trojans seemed back to their usual selves with effective kills coming from every spot across the front line.

Aubrey Sanders had ten kills and four blocks for Morgan while Jaiden Farr scored ten kills as well. When not working her magic from the service line, Wortman popped eight kills from her outside hitting position.

"They played well, but my kids battled their butts off," said Morgan coach Liz Wiscombe, whose squad beat Lone Peak (#2 in 5A) and Skyline (#2 in 4A) this season. "I'm proud of them. I wouldn't trade this team for anybody."

Earlier in the day, Morgan advanced to the championship with a win over Desert Hills. Snow Canyon, meanwhile, beat region rival Dixie for a third time this season.

"It's been a long day," Warriors coach Alaina Parker said. "We've just been working on that energy and the kids have been real mindful about what they're doing and how they're behaving on the court - the kind of energy they're sending to their teammates." CLASS 3A STATE VOLLEYBALL RESULTS
