Hillcrest will try to duplicate its 34-13 win over Cottonwood last Friday and earn a chance to play Region Four champion American Fork later in the week when the Huskies meet the Colts Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Taylorsville High.

Hillcrest is led by running back Ian Smith, while Cottonwood is paced by quarterback Cole Dipietro.

That is one of four play-in games Tuesday as the Utah state football tournament gets underway in all six classes.

Richfield will meet North Sanpete Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Juab with the final 3A South tournament spot on the line. The Wildcats beat the Hawks in late September 28-37 and bring a 7-3 mark into the game against North Sanpete's 3-7 overall record. The winner of that game plays Union later in the week.

There are also two three-team games Tuesday to determine the last two entrants into the Class 4A tournament.

Mountain Crest will host Bonneville at 4 p.m. for a half. The winner of that contest will then have to defeat Box Elder on the same field in a half game to earn the last berth from Region Five. The winner meets unbeaten Corner Canyon later in the week.

Wasatch meets Spanish Fork for a half game at 4 p.m. at Provo High. Maple Mountain will then play the winner of that contest for a half game. The winner will meet 9-1 Woods Cross later in the week.

Most of the state tournament games will be played Friday, though a few of the smaller schools meet Saturday and there could be some Saturday tests in 5A and 4A depending on what is decided after Tuesday's playoff games. —
